This one saree whispers a combination of so
many beautiful stories. There is a tale of strange coincidences, friendships,
admiration, appreciation, gratitude and so many more emotions woven into it.
Ashish is a Maharashtrian and this saree is a Paithani. Paithani is a handloom from Maharashtra and a must have for every Marathi bride. Guess what, it took me 22 years to get one of my own !!!
let me tell you the first story..
I found Akhilesh because of a book on Khan Sahab..the co-author (with his wonderful wife Rashmita) of many books but this one book initiated our friendship, and I got Rashmita as a bonus gift. Their wonderful daughters have added more layers to our friendship.my story about them is here –

In 2015, I became part of 100 Saree Pact and met Anu, our saree stories made us friends. She lives in Aurangabad, So when I heard Rashmita and Akhilesh were going to Aurangabad for vacation I connected them to Anu. Introducing two wonderful friends from different worlds to each other is such a joy. The Jhas went to Paithan and got me this beautiful saree. This saree is a reminder of how lucky I am to have such wonderful people in my life. If you don’t know, I was a “Jha” before I became Pandey. It took another “Jha” to get me a Maharastrian saree.
When I reached Delhi last summer, Ms Jha Junior handed me the saree saying that this saree has waited so long and she couldn’t wait to see Jaya Auntie draped in it. The saree finally made its way to Boston and awaited it’s turn in my wardrobe. Many a times I wanted to wear this saree but kept waiting for the right opportunity.
This May Ashish received a text from his sister. A high school friend of her’s ( a Mumbaite) wanted to invite us to her son’s wedding, here in Pennsylvania. For a change Ashish agreed to go for the wedding and here I was all excited to wear a Paithani to celebrate a Marathi groom’s big day. So far, I was going to meet someone who was my sister-in-law’s friend. Imagine the scenario.. after we connected and got talking, we discovered that she was my aunt’s friend from college. When we reached the wedding venue we met another friend of hers who had flown in from Oregon and it turned out that she too was my aunt’s best friend from school. What are the chances of such strange coincidences?
Ashish and I thoroughly enjoyed meeting everyone, dancing, eating and just spending a beautiful day in an amazing place. The venue was beautiful and weather was just perfect. We were able to leave the boys alone at home for this hectic two-day trip and I was so thankful for it all. I could not have found a better place to don this beautiful saree..
