Our train from Napoli was 30 minutes late. It was the last stop of our trip, and by this time, we were used to the train system. Instead of being anxious, I enjoyed another pastry from my to-go bag.
It was a short journey — about an hour and ten minutes (the same time as from Sorrento to Napoli), though that ride had better views. We got out at Rome Termini Station (Central Rome), which is the largest station in Italy with 30 platforms, for high-speed, regional, Metro, and international trains — plus bus stops right outside.
When I was looking for a place to stay, proximity to the station was important. Instead of a hotel, we picked an Airbnb just three minutes’ walk from the station. It was a much bigger space than we expected — with a kitchen, a huge bathroom, a living room, and a large bedroom. One entire wall was a closet! Too much space for us backpackers.
After getting ready, we took the Metro and went around Rome, enjoying a fabulous meal near the Trevi Fountain. Rome was very busy — and rightly so. It seems like there’s no off-season for this city.
We didn’t spend much time at the Trevi Fountain or the Pantheon — too many people lined up to take pictures.
Still, walking around Rome in the evening was an experience.
