Last Day Saturday Day -9 Yvoire and Gruyère

The last day in Switzerland happened to be our anniversary. We went to the medieval town of Yvoire in France. We took a taxi to Lausanne station, then a train to another border town, followed by a mile walk and a boat ride to Yvoire. I loved sitting on the outside deck of the boat, watching the world go by. This was our first time in France, and again, no passport checking or stamping. Yvoire is a tiny, tourist-friendly town with a totally different vibe. It is filled with artsy stores and wonderful items, but everything was quite expensive. We walked around and enjoyed a dish of fillet perch with amazing French wine.

After lunch, we returned home and then got ready for another wonderful celebration. We went to Gruyère for a fondue dinner and some cheese shopping. This town is famous for its cheese, which is used to make fondue. The drive was awesome, with the sun setting. The restaurant and food were absolutely wonderful. The drive was amazing as well.

Dinner was marvelous, and on the way back, I had my friend stop at Lake Geneva. The sunset was incredible, a perfect conclusion to our trip.

Travel Details:  costing around 16 CHF one way with a half-fare card.

  • Lausanne to Nyon: Around 35 minutes by train.
  • Walk from Station to the Port: About a 20-minute walk.
  • Nyon to Yvoire: A 20-minute boat ride,

This day was a fitting end to our journey, filled with beautiful sights, delicious food, and unforgettable memories.
